REGISTRATION
To register for classes (weaving or spinning) and workshops please contact: Arlene Tomnuk at arlenef@shaw.ca
Please note the registration deadline for all classes and workshops is three weeks before the scheduled start date to allow instructors time to prepare. If there are insufficient registrations at that time, the class or workshop will be cancelled and all fees will be refunded.
Course fees are payable to the guild at the time of registration (post-dated cheques made payable to Edmonton Weavers’ Guild.) If you are unable to attend a class or workshop for which you have registered, you may ask a friend to take your place. There will be no refunds on registration fees.
Looms and spinning wheels are available for loan during classes. For Beginner Weaving and Spinning classes a cheque for $250 as a damage deposit is required at the beginning of classes as equipment may be taken home during their duration. This cheque will be returned when the loom or spinning wheel and related materials are received in good condition by the instructor.
All classes and workshops are open to members and non-members of the Guild.

WEAVING CLASSES |

BEGINNER WEAVING (Fall, Winter and Spring Classes)
Learn to warp a four-harness table loom, read a pattern and weave a sampler and a project.
Fee:$ 200.00 (Materials for sampler included in course fee; students must supply materials for personal project). Loom loan available with damage deposit of $250)
Dates: March 05 to Apr. 30 2012 (8 Mondays, 6:30-9:30)

Blanket and Afghan Weaves
Using a table loom, students will explore weaving double width and several four and eight shaft weave structures. A variety of materials will be used and instruction on warping with sticky yarns will be included. Students will also learn finishing techniques including how to make a plied fringe on the loom, fulling and brushing. Participants will be required to warp the looms before class with materials and drafts provided; times for this will be arranged by the instructor.

Need Help? Planning Your Own Special Project!
Do you have special yarn you want to use in a weaving project? Do you hesitate to proceed because you have some questions about the pattern or sett or structure that will be appropriate for your yarn? This class will help you plan your project. Bring your yarn, ideas and pattern or draft, if you have them, and get assistance in planning and calculating so that you can proceed with confidence. This is a one on one, personally instructed course.

Loom Controlled Shibori Scarf
You will weave a tencel scarf with gathering threads in it. When the scarf is woven, the gathering threads will be pulled tight and knotted to create a very dense pleated piece of cloth. This will be dyed or painted with another colour. When dry after dyeing, the gathering threads will be snipped and an interestingly coloured scarf will emerge from the undyed resisted sections and dyed sections. Each scarf will be unique. You will use 8/2 tencel which dyes beautifully and has a lovely sheen. One cone is ample for a scarf. You may provide your own tencel and gathering thread, or the instructor can provide a white tencel warp, weft, and gathering thread to weave the scarf for $17

SPINNING CLASSES |
Beginner Spinning
Learn to prepare fibre for spinning. Learn how to spin using a spinning wheel.
Fee: $120.00
(Materials included). Spinning wheel loan available with damage deposit cheque.

Intermediate Spinning
Fibre Blending for Colour and Texture
Experiment with blending a variety of colours and fibre types to create unique and unusual yarns. Fibres used will include wool, alpaca, silk, mohair.

“Give Woad a chance, the powder is from France”
This is a Nature Dye Workshop, held on 2 consecutive Saturdays. Each participant will dye 400 gms of wool yarn in 11 different colours by combining Woad Powder with other natural dyes. Students will work individually and prepare their own dyes and Woad Vat. Bring your own lunches. A supply list and directions to this Leduc workshop will be given on registration. A materials fee of $40 is included in the class fee.

Kids Weave a Christmas Gift
A workshop for kids aged 6-13. Participate in a fun Saturday morning or afternoon class to weave a Christmas present for a special friend or relative. Learn to use a table loom and take home a finished gift.

Drop Spindling
Learn to manipulate fibre to create yarn using an inexpensive drop spindle. (A spindle can be borrowed for the duration of the class with a damage deposit of $20.) On the final day of class different support spindles and an Indian Charkha will be available for you to try.

Beginner Felting
Learn the basics of this very hands-on fibre art. Make four projects and learn four different techniques of manipulating fibre into fabric. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a towel, plastic bag, lunch and enthusiasm!

Feltscape
A Beginner Felting course or similar experience is pre-requisite for this workshop.
Create your very own work of art to wow any wall, in this one-day workshop. Students will fibre-paint using a combination of wet and dry felting techniques to produce a piece that may be framed. All materials provided; however, you may wish to bring a picture to inspire your individual taste, continue a theme or just show your favourite colours. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a towel, plastic bag and lunch.
Fee: $120.00 which includes $40.00 for materials)

Fabulous Felted Fusion
Students will learn how to make felt. Two scarves will be made in this class. The first will be luscious hand dyed merino wool. The second will be again hand dyed merino wool felted onto a silk backing. Decorative elements of silk throwsters and silk paper will be incorporated into the scarves for surface interest. beads and embroidery will finish this glorious accessory.
Merino is the finest and softest of wool fibres and makes a fabulous warm scarf.
Fee: $70 plus a $35 materials and book fee payable to the instructor

Computer Drafting Tutorial
Get started with computer pattern drafting. Tutorials of not more than three students will be offered on demand. Each participant will have access to a computer. The tutorial will be offered on a Friday morning, 9:30am – 11:30am. Once three persons have registered, they will be contacted by Kathy Buse to set a date suitable to all. Contact Arlene Tomnuk to register and arrange fee payment.

Flat Reed Snowflakes
Participants will work with 3/16 inch and 3/8 inch flat reed. By the end of the workshop they will have a minimum of two completely finished snowflakes. Properties of reed as well as dyeing (staining) and care will be discussed.
Supply list (clips, ruler, container, etc.) will be given on registration.
